Corona viruses are a type of virus that causes diseases like the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and common cold. In December of 2019 December, a novel Corona virus was discovered in Wuhan China and has spread all over the world. This virus is called severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID -19 diseases.
On March 11, 2020, the virus was declared a world pandemic and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is no known cure for this virus at the moment. The following are symptoms of Corona virus; fever or chills, cough, difficulty in breathing and fatigue. Other symptoms include muscle pains, loss of taste and smell, headache, excessive drowsiness, sore throat, running nose and diarrhea.
According to medical experts, COVID 19 patients can recover within a period of seven days to 14 days. However, those who get infected with other mild illnesses such as HIV and diabetes have higher chances of getting complicated conditions and risks becoming seriously ill.
The symptoms vary from one person to another but in most instances, they are mild in the first stages but for some people, they tend to be intense as day’s move. Besides, since it is a new disease, researchers are conducting further studies to understand any other signs and symptoms as well as developing a cure and vaccine to provide updates.
Corona virus is transmitted when a person gets exposed to droplets of respiratory droplets such as mucus or saliva from an infected person coughs or sneezes. When a person inhales the fluids, he/she gets infected when SARS-COV-2 enters the body.
How to prevent the spread of Corona
The recommended ways to prevent the spread of COVID 19 includes washing hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and running water. More so, using hand sanitizer that contains 60% alcohol is also a great way because research has indicated that alcohol kills Corona virus. Furthermore, avoid touching your mouth, eyes, nose when you have washed your hands. This is because such body parts contain mucus membranes and when you touch them with dirty, unwashed hands that have a virus; it will enter the body and transmit infection.
Consequently, when we touch or hug people with dirty surfaces, we contaminate and end up risking our chances of getting sick.
Also, when staying home and keeping away from people with mild Corona virus symptoms can assist in maintaining health. Another advisable way is keeping the social distance of at least two meters away when in public gatherings. It is equally important to cover the mouth and nose with a clean handkerchief or tissue when sneezing and coughing to prevent such floods from getting in contact with other people.
Further, maintaining a clean room and disinfecting them often will ensure that the virus is killed. Although infected persons can recover while in quarantine, the World Health Organization says people should seek medical attention as possible when they experience Corona symptoms and get tested to know the status. It is not advisable to go out when someone is feeling cold or experiencing any other related symptoms.
